Let’s begin now deploying the networks we will need in ten years time…

We face a fundamental question. Should we gradually extend today’s broadband networks, or should we begin now to deploy tomorrow’s – the fiber and high-speed wireless networks required for video-intensive applications — that are 20 to 200 times faster than today’s. We will need tomorrow’s networks, not today’s, if we are to solve the nation’s urgent problems, grow our economy, and keep pace with other industrialized nations. If, instead, we choose to extend today’s obsolescent networks, we will use up the political will and investment capital that is needed for tomorrow’s networks.
